Hey! This happens because the the "playhead" is at the end of the track. The playhead is the thin vertical line on the track. If you click somewhere on the track, you'll see the line show up. Once you see the playhead, hit the button with the arrow pointing left (near the record button at the top). That will move the playhead to the beginning. If you start recording, it should begin from the beginning. If that doesn't work, try clicking on Tracks>Add New> Stereo Track. Then click at the beginning of that track and try recording. A few people have mentioned this problem recently, so I think there is something up with the most recent version of Audacity. Hopefully this will help you! Thanks for using my tutorial.

@@indiemusicbox Hi, thank you for your answer. Unfortunately it doesn´t help. I have tried both the things you have mentioned, but every time I tap 'record' the playhead jumps back to the end of the music track and starts recording from there. But, I can record the voice first and put the music track in afterwards. It seems like that's the only option I have. But thank you anyway. If you find a better solution let me know :)

@@zizielang Recording the voice first is a good option! You can always delete the extra time at the beginning of the vocal track as well (by selecting the empty space and hitting the delete or backspace key). Alternatively you could listen to the music via a different program while you record (just make sure you use headphones). Then you can edit in the music later. I'm not sure if you are using Windows or Mac OS. I am trying to recreate the issue on a Mac and I can't. I did find a couple other things you could try. First, try holding down the shift key when you click record. Second, try going to Edit > Preferences > Recording > and check "Record on a New Track". If neither of those work, you'll probably have to record the voice track first (maybe with the music playing via headphones on a different program) and then add the music in afterwards. Sorry about this! Audacity is being weird!

Hi Nikki, try this. Click somewhere in the middle on the new track. A vertical line will show up. This is the "playhead" and that's where it will start recording from. If you move the playhead to the beginning (either by clicking or hitting the button with the arrow pointing left, up near the record button), then you should be able to start recording from the beginning. The playhead was probably at the end of the music track by default. I hope this helps!

Hi! You'd have to use a different program for that (a video editing program). If you have a Mac computer, iMovie is a good option. Once you finish editing your guided meditation you would add that audio file to the video editing program along with whatever visuals you want to use. You'll have to look up a separate tutorial for that program, however. Thanks for watching!

The first thing I would check is to make sure your headphones and volume settings are all good to go. If you record a bit of your voice, does that play? I would also check to make sure the music track isn't muted. If you are having trouble opening the MP3 with Audacity, you can try installing FFmpeg. Details on that are here: support.audacityteam.org/basics/installing-ffmpeg Another option is to play the music on a separate program while you record (make sure you use headphones so the mic doesn't pick it up). Once the vocal track is recorded, you could try combining them after. I hope this helps! It's hard for me to give too much assistance, as I can't see the problem. Take care!

Hi - My music license does not allow streaming of my music alone on an app. It would have to be used in the background of a new creation, such as a guided meditation. The spoken guided meditation (with my background music) could be used commercially on an app, but not the music alone. Hi Molly - I'm sorry you're having trouble! I can't say for sure, as I can't see what is happening, but make sure you are hitting the button at the top of the program that has a red circle in it. That will start the recording. When it is done recording, hit the button with the arrow pointing left (towards a line) to go back to the beginning of the project. Then hit the play button (the green arrow pointing right) to play what you've recorded. If you can't record at all, I would try to add a new track (under Tracks>Add New> Stereo Track) and then click on the track to make sure it is selected before you start recording. If you are still having trouble, try to search for some Audacity recording tutorials, as they might help with some things I haven't covered here. I hope this helps!

Hi @@mollyannesummers3650! I would try adding a new track. I think there have been some issues like this with a newer version of Audacity than the one I used for this tutorial. Go to the menu and choose the following: Tracks>Add New> Stereo Track. Then click somewhere on the new track so you see the vertical line (the playhead). That is where the recording will start. Put the line at the beginning (either by clicking where you want it, or using the button with the arrow pointing left towards a line). Then try recording. I hope that works/helps!

Thanks for buying some of my music as well. :) Here's something you can try: After dragging the music into Audacity, go to menu at the top and select "Tracks", then "Add New", then "Stereo Track". Click on the new track somewhere so the vertical line shows up (your playhead). Then hit the button that looks like an arrow pointing left towards a line (it should be near the play and stop buttons). This will move your playhead to the beginning of the new track. Then you should be able to hit record and it will start at the right place. If you want to record at a different point, you can click to put your playhead wherever you need it to be. Also, a reminder to use headphones and make sure your microphone can't pick up the music while you are recording. I hope this helps!
